JACKSON GRIFFON (11/18/2020) Today’s college football game has less of the “old school” pad popping hits that sent crowds and sidelines into a frenzy. I’m not saying this is necessarily a bad thing; as research comes out and rules are altered, it is simply the way of progress. However, football is still a violent sport, and we as fans are not completely devoid of moments of impact that leave you saying “HOLY ****, WHAT A HIT!”
With expectations looking grim in a game where Texas Tech desperately needed to shift the momentum, the call of a fearless champion was answered by senior linebacker, Colin Schooler, in the most beautifully brutal fashion. Texas Tech fans found themselves watching their team down 8 points with 1:45 left in the 3rd quarter. Charlie Brewer had run the ball rather successfully to this point in the game, and with the Texas Tech defense reeling for a stop on 3rd and goal from their 4 yard line….magic happened in the form of a time stopping, mind blowing, touchdown erasing collision that will register as one of the greatest Texas Tech football hits ever laid. Baylor fans look away, this wasn’t pretty.
For older Tech fans, such as myself, this hit will bring back flashes of greatness from notorious bruiser, Dwayne Slay.
It’s safe to say Charlie Brewer will not be forgetting his first trip to Lubbock touting the green and gold (yack) and neither will Colin Schooler or Red Raider Nation!
